Lavender

In aromatherapy, it is used as an antidepressant, a tranquilliser and to balance the nervous system, as well as a decongestant for colds and flu. It is also considered effective for lowering blood pressure and alleviating digestive problems, and is blended with other homeopathic substances to treat back pain and earache.
It is a hardy, perennial plant that thrives in well-drained soil. It prefers clay soils, is very cold-hardy and thrives in sunny positions. After flowering, the plant should be pruned to maintain a neat shape. Two prunings per year are recommended.
